We seek an experienced VP of Engineering to recruit, build, and manage a diverse and talented development team. Responsibilities for this position include leading a team of engineers to build a high quality commercial product that will delight customers, on time and on budget, and in collaboration with other groups within the organization.

We seek an experienced VP of Engineering to recruit, build, and manage a diverse and talented development team. Responsibilities for this position include leading a team of engineers to build a high quality commercial product that will delight customers, on time and on budget; collaborating with Materials Research and Product Management; engaging/coordinating with the executive team; and establishing and continually improving Engineering policies and standards.

To be successful as VP of Engineering, you should have prior executive level organizational leadership experience, a strong track record of delivering high quality products on time and on budget, and demonstrated superior strategic problem-solving. The VP of Engineering should convey excellent communication skills, an ability to openly deliberate and engage with other engineers and developers, and possess a solid foundation in systems design.

Responsibilities
  • Will provide program management and engineering execution leadership to ensure on time, on budget delivery of company's products, including all inter-dependencies between functional disciplines, such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, and software.

  • Will support company's technical leadership in collaboration with CTO by co-developing the technical strategy, and develop and maintain a technical roadmap that will continue to innovate from a technical standpoint and serve as a systems architect.

  • As part of the senior staff, will work in an interdisciplinary manner with peers in other departments, including Marketing, Product Management, and Manufacturing, as well as the CEO and CTO to develop product strategy.

  • Will manage the annual budget for the engineering department.

Requirements
  • Strong engineering organizational leadership skills.

  • Extensive experience in staffing, scaling, and managing quality engineering teams.

  • Experience in hardware/software/system design and developing customer-orientated platforms.

  • Entrepreneurial instincts with clear bias for informed action and track record of leading new initiatives with limited resources

  • Knowledgeable about industry trends, best practices, and change management.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in a global environment

  • Drive engineering initiatives from a strategic product perspective

  • Influence without reporting structure and operate without guidance

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with ability to use data and metrics for making assumptions and decisions

  • Excellent written and verbal communications across technical and non-technical stakeholders, including presenting to senior executives and board of directors.

  • 10+ years of experience in engineering management

  • Masters or PhD degree in Engineering or equivalent in experience
